Pipacs on tour
26th of April to 2th of May 2005
Every year the Pipacs goes on a holiday together. The savings from a year of performing is being spent on travelling and good food.
Once every four years however, the entire filling (joined by some dementista's, former members) leaves for Hungary. In the summer of 2000, Pipacs made an extensive tour in the surroundings of Budapest. From their Mansion at the Balaton Lake, kindly hosted by Michael Liskay, and an appartement in the centre of Budapest, Pipacs took hold of the entire country!
Performances in the Gerbeaud, the Hungarian Parliament and even during the Lottoshow (prime-time television) the Dutch Gypsies were soon a well known phenomenon. On the other hand, the orchestra enjoyed the Gundel restaurant, sanatorium Gellert and the beautiful landscape of the Balaton Lake.
July 2004 the Pipacs travels again to Hungary. De preparations for this trip are well in progress. Be sure we won't miss the Pipacs Utca (XI.ker. Gellerthegy) in Budapest!

This year (2005) Pipacs was invited to Budapest by the Dutch Embassy. The programme was overwhelming, thanks to a very special cooperation between Frido Diepeveen (Chair of the Dutch Expat Community), Robert van Nouhuys (Dutch Ambassador to Hungary) and Vera Hanekamp. Performances at the Residence of the Ambassador, a day's Masterclass given by the top Gypsy musicians and a fantastic Gypsy Concours. Rewarded by a first prize, Pipacs played at the Queen's Prom in Budapest. The week not only opened doors to more frequent visits, the band's enthousiam reached an unprecedented level as well.
